Dear Students,

I just want to remind you that we are hosting a Friendship Evening this Thursday at 2 pm in room 263 which is to the left of the coffee dock. The evening starts at 6p.m. and will finish at 7.30 pm approx. During the meeting we will have a brief introduction and maybe look at some of the things you would like to do while you are in Dublin. The Friendship Evenings will take place on the first Thursday of each month unless I notify you otherwise. Please e mail by return if you intend to come along as we have to organise refreshments for Thursday.

Dublin is City of Science....if you didn't know already :)

Today Dublin formally launched as European City of Science for 2012. In July, the city will host the Euroscience Open Forum, attracting scientists from all over the globe. Ireland’s rich scientific landscape will also be opened up to the public as interactive events will be happening all over the island during the year.

Prof Patrick Cunningham, chief scientific adviser to the Government, was one of the key people who led the bid to secure Dublin's tenure as City of Science. It was in Strasburg in France in 2008 that Dublin was announced as the city to host the 2012 Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF), edging ahead of Vienna...click on the link to read more...

Sh*te Irish Girls Say....

Clare Cullen, a DIT Journalism graduate began vlogging a year ago just for fun, well her most recent vlog has now received over half a million hits on YouTube in just over a week! Pretty impressive!
The video became an instant hit on both Facebook and Twitter and was featured on IrishCentral.com, America’s Irish news network.

What Clare says...

"I think a lot of people see either themselves or someone they know in it. Even though it is probably more country girls, the Dublin girls see their friends and family in it. Also it’s quite lighthearted and done in good spirits. And last but not least, the Irish are great for slagging each other and laughing at ourselves and everyone has taken it in that spirit!”
